• Update #1 – No job in Boston, but a move around the corner

Wow, am I reliable, huh? 😉 I know, I promised a post that night of my apology…well, didn’t work out. Hehe…

Anyway, I was thinking about where to start best for my updates and I think the first thing is this:

In July, I applied for a position as an Officer Manager with a company called Polytec. They have their headquarters in Irvine, CA just an hour away from here, but the job was posted for Hopkinton, which is a small town close to Boston, MA. Yes, the east coast. I was really considering to move to the east coast. The job sounded really interesting and seemed like it would provide lots of opportunities to grow. So, I applied. I got a response very soon and so it started. I talked to 4 different people within that company at all kinds of locations within the States. Then I was invited to an interview at their headquarters in Irvine. The interview went really well and took almost two hours. I left the building with a really good feeling.

In the same time the 1-year lease of my apartment was over. So, my property management wanted to know, if I wanted to renew the lease for another year or if I would like to continue with a month-to-month lease. Since I wasn’t sure what was going to happen and it looked really promising with the job in Boston, I decided to continue with a month-to-month lease.

Well, Polytec didn’t contact me after the interview for three weeks, even not on follow-up emails on my part. And then suddenly one Friday night, I receive an email that said: Sorry, we have chosen someone else. WTH? What happened? I don’t know… and to be honest, I also didn’t feel like asking. I was pretty disappointed. But well… That’s life!

So, I went back to my normal misery everyday life, where I am looking for jobs. Anyway… one day, I got a voice message from my property management. In the message, the lady said, she needed to talk to me about a letter that she received from the owner of my apartment. Oh man, I suspected the worst. That didn’t sound good at all.

And guess what?! I was right! My landlord got separated from her husband and wanted her place back!!! She was pretty much just waiting for me to not renew my lease for another year! Bitch! So what did that mean? I had 60 days to find a new place. AGAIN!! And I was so happy in my studio. I finally felt home in there and then she wanted to kick me out? Just like that? I couldn’t believe it.

Well, since I am the kind of person that wants to resolve those things as fast as possible, I started looking for a new place right away. I didn’t find something ideal, but I found something easy. In the same complex, a GERMAN couple (I know what a coincidence 🙂 ) wanted to rent out their place for one year because they wanted to go back to Germany. So I pulled my I’m-German-too card and got the place. It’s really not ideal because they rented it out furnished and I do have my own furniture, too. But the good part is, the apt is has a small den (a maybe 80 sqft room) that I am using as the “storage” now. I managed to put the entire furnishing into that room. Which is really awesome because it saves me the money for a storage room. And the people wouldn’t have liked me to put their furniture into storage anyway. So, perfect! 🙂

It’s just, you know… It’s someone else’s place and they will come back. So, it’s again not mine. I don’t feel home there and I will have to look for something else soon again. Hopefully that will finally be something more permanent.

  • The year is starting well!

Yeah, it does! I’m as motivated as never and I just feel great! It’s pretty awesome to be able to say that again! 🙂

At the beginning of the month I started acting classes. I got one free month of those as a gift for Christmas from Gaby. Really cool… acting was one thing I have always talked about… well I should probably better say thought about. If you talk about those kind of dreams in Germany, all you here from the people is: Yeah, sure… keep talking and do something decent!

So I never really did.. tell anyone that I would love to try it. Since I live here though, I don’t feel so stupid anymore to say it. And after Gaby has heard about that she kept pushing me into actually doing it. So, she gave me one month of free acting classes. And? It’s pretty cool! It’s so much fun. I totally enjoy it, already the fact that I have something else to do during the week.

On Saturday I’ll even have my first showcase. An agent from San Diego will be coming to the school and we all will perform our monologues. I’m more doing it for fun and just to see what’s gonna happen. I don’t expect to get an agent right away.. that would be a little naive. But people actually do tell me that I really have talent! And that makes it all even more fun. 🙂

It’s gonna be one of these two pictures that I’m gonna use as my headshot for that showcase. I really gotta say that it is a hard decision which one to take. I’ll probably make a spontaneous decision. The people I’ve been asking for their opinion all have another opinion.

Well, then something else happened already in January. I moved! Yeah… and I’m really happy about it! I moved to UTC into a condo with another roommate. My roommate Eduardo is really nice and has a dog, too. So, Amy will have a new friend, too. 🙂

Besides… that place is really awesome! I’m now just 5 minutes away from work and directly at a canyon. So, I just get out of the door and am able to make a nice big walk with Amy in the canyon. That’s just really perfect for me and Amy!

The place is a 2 bedroom/2 bathroom condo. So, I have my room, my own bathroom and the best of all: a walk-in closet! Yay! Lot’s of space for all my stuff!

And then that place also has tennis courts, basket ball courts, a volley ball court, swimming pools, hot tubs and a gym! If that isn’t great!?  Here you can see already a few pictures of my new place! I love it! 🙂

  • And? Is there a big change coming up?

Yes, maybe! 🙂 On Monday I had an interview in Los Angeles for a translator job. This position would be full time with benefits at Nickelodeon. Like now, I would be the German translator for video games. Just, as known from Nickelodeon, everything for kids. Nickelodeon is located in Glendale, a relatively nice part of Los Angeles. Has almost a little “little-town-feeling” – compared to rest of the city at least. Glendale has about 190,000 habitants, but is pretty residential. And it is surrounded by mountains, which I really like.

The interview went really great! 🙂 I left the building after it with a big, fat smile on my face. The manager who interviewed me and I got along very well. When I talked about my current job, he was nodding his head and when he talked about my potential new position, I was just nodding. We both knew exactly what the other one was talking about since it would pretty much be exactly the same job. And he also said that the translation test I had to do a couple of weeks ago scored highest from all the tests of the applicants. I have no clue how many applicants they had but it was definitely very nice to hear that! He said “it was excellent”! 🙂

Anyway, he said they would get back to me and I told him again how much I’m interested in that job!

Let’s hope, I’m gonna get that job. I have such a good feeling. And let’s also hope that they make me a good offer concerning the salary. I’ve been curious already and have been checking on apartments already a little bit and there is a little difference to San Diego. Man.. LA is expensive!
